Under general supervision, assists the kitchen processes through a variety of duties including: prepping food items, and preparing dishes, maintaining deli counter items; sandwich/wrap preparation, organizing and cleaning kitchen station areas, cleaning dishes, answering customer questions, and providing recommendations per customer diet specifications. Essential Functions

  • Ensure kitchen food items meet the Kitchen Manager’s specifications
  • Understand ingredient list as it pertains to specialty diets, answer questions related to ingredients
  • Properly label and maintain ingredients
  • Label and merchandise weekly Manager’s specials
  • Prepare and portion food orders during service, properly utilizing weighing machine, when necessary
  • Ensure food display includes a sampling of fresh goods; remove items that have become stale
  • Eagerly engage customers in conversation; help to recommend selections for taste, customer specifications and specialty diets
  • Clean and maintain work areas, including utensils, dishes and equipment, on an ongoing basis
  • Adhere to health code specifications and sanitation of all equipment and serving procedures
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related/Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

The employee must have the ability to: sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods where wet processes are used, wear protective footwear, wear personal protective equipment (to include gloves and a mask at all times), and work in extreme temperatures. The employee must have the ability to frequently lift and move up to 50.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position; nights and weekends are be required.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma, or equivalent training and experience - required
  • Minimum of one-year cooking experience in a professional kitchen - required
  • Previous wrap/sandwich making experience – preferred
  • Knowledge of specialty foods and deli/counter service experience - preferred
