Under general supervision, provides excellent customer service while monitoring cashier needs, and maintaining additional front-end duties, as a Lead Steward. *Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Essential Functions

  • Greet customers, and offer friendly helpful service
  • Train new cashiers on registers and store policies; review training manual, answer questions
  • Periodically skim excess bills and place in the cash safe; provide change for cashiers, as needed
  • Maintain shopper and register supplies at checkout stands and stations
  • Inform cashiers of store specials and price changes
  • Maintain cashier break chart
  • Collect insufficient funds, or bounced checks from vendors, as needed
  • Participate in cashier performance evaluations
  • Monitor phone lines and promptly notify store management via email of callouts or other personnel messages
  • Check out customer purchases promptly and accurately, using correct prices, and department PLU codes
  • Follow security procedures with customers regarding cash handling, etc.
  • Become familiar with store policies and products to help answer customer questions
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties/Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

The employee must have the ability to: sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods where wet processes are used, wear protective footwear, and work in extreme temperatures. The employee must have the ability to frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position; nights and weekends may be required.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma, or equivalent training and experience – required
  • Minimum of one-year customer service experience - required
  • Minimum of one-year supervising experience - preferred
  • Familiarity with natural food/products - preferred
