Reducing the Risk: Colon Cancer Prevention

When

Monday, March 27th | 6:30 to 7:30PM in The Beet

With

Michael P. Jones, MD,  Debbie Dust, MHA, ACSM-cPT, and Blair Caldwell, LCSW of The Well Being.  Read the teams’ bios here.

The Well Being was formed over 25 years of practice, research and education in the study of digestive disorders.  Their belief is that feeling better starts by understanding the whole person, and this is particularly true when it comes to digestive problems.  The brain and the gut aren’t just “connected,” they are part of the same system.  What happens in your gut effects how you feel and how your body works.  This is known as the biopsychosocial model of digestive illness and it’s a model of care that Dr. Jones has spent his career studying and putting into practice.  Why?  Because, compared with standard medical care, it does a much better job getting people better.

Description

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month!

Colorectal Cancer is the number 2 cancer killer in the United States, yet it is one of the most preventable, and treatable types of cancer.  The incidence appears to be increasing in younger adults.  Colorectal cancer can be prevented—not just detected—through colonoscopy and other screening tests.  Colorectal cancer arises from pre-cancerous growths called polyps that grow in the colon.  When detected early, polyps can be removed, halting their progression to colorectal cancer.  While early detection of any cancer is important, prevention is powerful.

Please join Dr. Mike Jones and the Well Being for an informative, interactive discussion regarding colorectal cancer screening and prevention.  We think you’re really going to find this helpful. The evening’s topics will include:

  • “Rising Incidence of Colon Cancer in Younger Adults: Implications for Screening and Prevention” Michael P. Jones, MD, FACP, FACG, AGAF
  • “Diet & Colon Cancer: Fact & Fiction” Debbie Dust, MHA, ACSM-cPT
  • “Stress as a Carcinogen” Blair Caldwell, LCSW
