Living a healthy life is not as easy as people make it seem, and we get that. We understand that tackling nutrition, fitness, and education at the same time is no easy task. For years we’ve served the community as a source for you to choose options that lead you toward a healthier lifestyle. Now we’re giving you all of the tools necessary to be great in all three of those areas. And by “all” we mean “ALL” of the tools. Fitness classes, nutrition classes, food journals, weigh-ins, health diagnostics – you name it, Ellwood Thompson’s and our partners are providing them all and at NO COST TO YOU. We want you to know that we are behind you in your efforts and here to support you in your wellness goals. All you have to do is apply online and tell us why you should be a Get Well “Challenger.” Based on those applications, we’ll choose 40 lucky people to take part in this free, three month program. Let us break it down for you in laymen’s terms. We’re giving 40 people the chance of a lifetime transformation. Think one of these people could be you, all you have to do is tell us why. We’re offering 40 participants 12 weeks and a ton of classes to transform themselves in to healthier humans! Everyone who makes it through the entire three months will automatically win the start of a healthier lifestyle and will receive amazing discounts from participating vendors and tons of free merchandise.
How does it works?
STEP 1: Download the Get Well Challenge Application (PDF) and then drop it off at our customer service desk in the store by September 20th. All we’re asking for is some general contact information and why you should be one of the 40 challengers. Sell us, and you’ll be chosen. Have a friend or relative that needs a lifestyle transformation? Let them know too!
STEP 2: If chosen, you will be asked to attend our Get Well Challenge kick off meeting, Monday, September 30th at 5:30PM in the Ellwood Thompson’s Community Room. Here we will explain the details of the program, provide you with the schedule of classes, and give you your tools for success. If you have any questions, they will all be answered here. Consider this the start of your wellness journey.
STEP 3: Let’s set some goals. In the kick off meeting, our Nutrition experts help you set clearly defined and reachable goals that will be executable throughout our 3 month program. Well then break those goals down individually and help each individual reach them.
STEP 4: It’s diagnostic time. One day each week you will schedule to visit Richmond Natural Medicine for you to weigh in and keep track of your progress. Richmond Natural Medicine experts are also offering diagnotics at the beginning of the Challenge and at the end, that measure your body composition to see how you’ve changed! You’ll see where you are and where you need to go.
STEP 5: Get to work! The program now begins. Come to all of the classes. Food journal everything you eat. Go to your weekly weigh-ins. Attend the monthly Challenger check-ins. Achieve your nutritional requirements set forth in your scheduled group meetings with the Ellwood Thompson’s Health Coach. Success will be yours at the end of 3 months.

Richmond Natural Medicine is an alternative and integrated clinic that provides holistic care from a variety of practitioners who offer naturopathic medicine, aromatherapy, reflexology, massage, and nutritional services in a compassionate and supportive environment. Their mission is to improve lives within the Richmond community using a holistic model that provides compassionate individualized medicine through education, collaboration, transparency, integrity, and prevention. Richmond Natural Medicine is a dynamic group of women that found one another due to common values, goals and lifestyle. They believe in empowering those around them to live vital lives and feel fortunate to be working with one another at RNM. Their collaborative work with one another and those within our community provide them with a wealth of knowledge and insight to help various individuals regardless of gender, age, race or creed. RMN values their other colleagues within the natural medicine arena as well as our colleagues within the modern medicine field and believe that together we best serve the needs of Central Virginia and our direct community within Richmond.
Lindsay received her Bachelors of Science degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design at Virginia Tech where she sought to get people outdoors and experience the rhythms of the seasons. She is passionate about designing and developing sustainable landscapes that are both biodynamic and (deliciously!) organic while also offering a sensory and medicinal experience. In 2009 she began her graduate studies at the Maryland University of Integrative Health in Laurel, MD and completed her Masters of Science degree in Herbal Medicine in 2012. She specialized in circadian rhythm physiology and sleep support.
Being the only accredited graduate herbal medicine program in the country, she gained specialized experience integrating modern scientific knowledge with traditional wisdom to generate a well informed understanding of the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants. She quickly developed a love for herbal compounding, and during her third year at MUIH, she actively practiced in the faculty supervised student herbal medicine clinic and completed a 2 year apprenticeship in the Herb Dispensary compounding with over 100 western, Ayurvedic and chinese herbs. This prompted Lindsay to establish her own compounding herb dispensary in Virginia when she established her private practice.
Following the completion of her Masters work, Lindsay earned her certification in Nutrition (CNS) from the Certification Board for Nutrition Specialists. She is also a licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) by the Maryland State Board of Dietetics. She owns her own practice, Ginger Tonic Botanicals, and practices at Richmond Natural Medicine offering consultations in herbal medicine and integrative nutrition.
Denise Dolan is a leading wellness and relationship expert, whose unique approach helps individuals and organizations discover how to shift health and relationship conflicts from “problems to possibilities.” She provides practical tools and insights learned from diverse wisdom traditions from around the world and reveals how self-awareness, honest communication skills, and personal action can move clients towards remarkable health and extraordinary relationships. She walks her talk. Denise stunned family, friends and colleagues when she resigned as the co-founder of a multi-national consulting firm to both study, and share diverse wisdom traditions that promote individual and community wellness.
Katie McCall is a full time actress, enjoying national and regional on-camera, voice-over, and theater work. She is also certified in several healing modalities that she uses in her business, Mind Over Matter Success, LLC. Katie is a Certified Results System Practitioner, using kinesiology and the Results System for brain re-patterning, and for identifying and clearing limiting subconscious beliefs. In addition, she is a Reiki Master, Master IET Practitioner & Instructor, EFT Practitioner, and a Certified Hypnotherapist. Katie uses a custom blend of these techniques and more, to best serve your emotional and physical healing needs. If you feel blocked, stuck, stressed, and/or in physical or emotional pain, there is most likely a modality that can help!
CrossFit RVA is a gym dedicated to fitness and performance. They train in small groups, always under the instruction of an experienced trainer. Their workouts are short and challenging, but can be adjusted to fit anyone’s fitness level. Their gym provides an alternative to the typical gym experience you’ll find in Richmond, VA. They trade the machines that have become a staple at many gyms for effective training in weightlifting, basic bodyweight control, kettlebells, and many other strength and conditioning methods that we have found to be effective. The workouts are constantly changing, keeping it interesting and exciting. Their members have reached goals in athletic performance, weight loss, and general fitness.
Fit Richmond is a Personal Training and Group FITness company that goes above and beyond to help the Richmond community truly change their lives. They take a holistic approach and do not believe in gimmicks, diets, quick fixes or cookie cutter workout plans. New to the Richmond area but not to the cycling scene, TidalWheel is a full-body indoor cycling studio that provides riders with an all-encompassing, inspirational workout. By combining upbeat, energetic music with experienced instructors, they guide you through a one-of-a-kind exercise experience you won’t find anywhere else. Each TidalWheel class takes riders on an exhilarating, heart-pumping journey that not only burns calories but sculpts and tones as we work through our upper-body weight and core strengthening techniques. Tammy Billups combines elements of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, Jazzercise, yoga, kickboxing and more to choreographed music including top 40, jazz, country, funk and classics. Students mirror the instructor, who shows both high and low impact options throughout the class. Participants in the Get Well Challenge are welcomed to attend any of her classes at no charge offered at the Cool Springs Recreation Center.
