Gananath Amritananda (or “Swamiji” as he is called by his students) has practiced and taught Ayurveda for 10 years.  He is the director of the Soma Matha School of Ayurveda and directs certification courses in Ayurveda and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy.  Swamiji is considered a master of Ayurvedic Herbology and is currently writing a book on the subject of traditional Ayurvedic herbal formulas.

Description

This class introduces the basic concepts of eating a healthy and nourishing diet according to the ancient principles of Ayurveda.  Ayurveda teaches that “When diet is right, no herbs or medicine are necessary, and when diet is wrong no medicine will be of use.”  Specific dietary recommendations for each of the three doshas (Ayurvedic constitutions) will be described in detail.  Emotional factors influencing eating habits and ways to overcome emotional food cravings will be discussed.  Herbs to enhance digestion, absorption, and elimination will be discussed also.
