If you head towards Mechanicsville, about 26 miles east of our store, get off the main road, you’ll soon see a quaint little patch of crops. This little parcel is proudly owned by Tom Farmer…Yup, that’s his real name. Nestled right along the Pamunkey River is Rockin’ F Farms, a name that was handed down from Tom’s agricultural roots, spanning NINE GENERATIONS.
Tom Farmer cultivates traditional crops like broccoli, cauliflower, kale and collard greens, commenting “Look. I grow what I know.” Tom’s advice for Ellwood’s you ask? “Eat the seasons! If you follow this simple mantra, eating local falls into place.” And what’s in season this week? Broccoli and cauliflower! Brassicas are beautiful. So steam it, mash it, however you make it, enjoy the taste of Hanover goodness.
