We were doing some late Spring cleaning this week and stumbled upon a small photo album (we’re talking about real photos here) from our first ever trip out to meet Joel Salatin at Polyface Farms in Swoope, VA. We’re guessing these are circa 2007. It’s neat to look back through them and see where we have gone and where Joel has gone. In reality, nothing has changed besides Joel’s popularity and growth, as well as ours. He’s still taking age old farming methods and putting them to use the right way, the natural way. Click to see the rest of the pictures.
From left to right, here you have our old store manager, Wade, Joel Salatin, Laura who is is part of the Honey Dew Drops, and on the far right, Tony who was our old assistant store manager. In the background, the beautiful Polyface Farm.
Looking across the farm onto the green hills.
Looking in from the field to Joel’s farmhouse.
Pasture-raised chickens are happy chickens and lay happy eggs. Ever seen how yellow one of Polyface Farms eggs is?
Chickens headed into the mobile-henhouse where they can enjoy the shade, lay some eggs, or converse about the weather. They’re free to come and go as they please.
The watering hole, where gossip is spread and the chickens talk about how big Joel’s smile is.
Free-range and pasture raised turkeys.
And here is a video we shot about two months ago at Polyface.
