ET’s Commitment to Animals
Ellwood Thompson’s is appalled at the cruelty animals are forced to endure to create many commercial products. All though we do carry many items that are traditionally associated with such cruelty we have taken many steps to ensure all of the products we are offer are respectful to our animal friends. We are constantly evaluating our products to ensure they are cruelty free, however if you have any questions or concerns about any of our products please contact Chris Castillo, our store manager.
Meat Department
We offer only pasture raised meats and sustainably harvested fish. We follow the Monterey Bay Seafood guidelines from their Seafood Watch Program. All of our meats are free of hormones and antibiotics and many come from local farms. You can read about our farmers. (need to add link when content is posted.)
Dairy Department
We are proud to offer only local pasture raised eggs in our dairy department. Too many industrial egg producers are using “Free Range” to describe their eggs. However “Free Range” is not as humane as one would think. Compassion over Killing explains the truth about “Free Range” farms.
Nourish Department
None of the items we carry in our Health and Beauty Section are tested on animals. Often products will bear labels that state “cruelty free” or “not tested on animals,m” but what the labels are referring to is the finished product and not the product’s components. By law, synthetic ingredients must be tested or state that the safety of the product has not yet been determined. Luckily we do not allow synthetic ingredients in our health and beauty aids. Not only do we believe synthetics are bad for you, but they also cause harm to animals.
Essentials Department
Animal cruelty is often over looked outside of cosmetics but the same rules apply to synthetics found in household cleaning products. We are proud to say all of our cleaning products are all-natural and not tested on animals. We also have a wide variety of all natural pet care products available. Food safety is as important to our pets as it is to us. We are proud to offer only human-grade pet food, created with all natural ingredients. We also offer raw food for dogs in our frozen food section.
