The very mention of bats strikes terror in the hearts of many, conjuring images of rabies and vampires but bats are an essential component to our natural food shed, feeding on insects that are often harmful to plants (as an added bonus they eat mosquitoes too) and fruit bats pollinate our food. Sadly, our bats are dying at alarming rates to White-nose Syndrome, some hibernaculum have lost 90-100% of its bats to White-Nose Syndrome, You can read more about White-Nose Syndrome here: http://www.fws.gov/northeast/pdf/white-nosefaqs.pdf
