Have you seen the new community garden on the corner of Patterson Ave and Thompson Street? Here are some pictures of our workday on April 25th were more than 100 community volunteers came out and helped transform an empty plot of land into an amazing community garden.
Ellwood Thompsons, Tricycle Gardens and the City of Richmond with the help of many generous community supporters partnered together to create the first community garden on city property. We are truly excited to be involved in this project as the importance of urban agriculture is becoming more apparent.
There has been tremendous interest in this garden. All 29 plots were rented before the garden was built and there is a lengthy waiting list for plots. We hope that this garden will serve as a catalyst to transform other city lots into gardens for the community.
Stay tuned for updates and photos of the Ellwood Thompson’s employee plot, where employees we be able to raise their own vegetables. Helping to strengthen our involvement and understanding of our farm to fork philosophy.
