Ellwood’s Coffee & Books on Wheels!

So building up to the opening, Ellwood’s Coffee had a giant bookshelf that had no books on it. A common problem to any giant bookshelf. So we went to our good friends, Shelley and Ward at Books on Wheels, to see if they could help us out.
The end result was the Ellwood’s Coffee & Books On Wheels Community Bookshelf. What is a Community Bookshelf? Picture a coffee shop where you can relax and sip your brew (beer or coffee) and pick up a book to read. “Wow, this book turns out to be pretty good, I think I’d like to take it home and finish reading it.” Well now you can do that. The Community Bookshelf is exactly what it sounds like. Thanks to Books on Wheels, you can take books home, donate books, share books, exchange books, and of course, read all the books you want.
We’re so stoked to partner with Ward and Shelley with this project. We even got a local sculptor named Jonny Barton to make a neat little donation bus, where all of the donations to directly to Books on Wheels.
If you’re not familiar with Books on Wheels, just imagine a big colorful bus that is filled with bikes, bike parts, tons of books, volunteers, and of course, Ward and Shelley. They call it the “MobookMobikeMobile”, which travels to many different communities and cities all along the East Coast, and even out to the Mid-West to provide their services. They are completely dedicated to promoting literacy and alternative transportation, while providing much needed resources to our communities. We are so glad that something like this is coming straight out of Richmond.

Books on Wheels is a volunteer run organization. Please visit their donation page to see how you can help them continue to help others. Also check out their blog for updates and where to find them next.
Check them out on YouTube and Flickr as well.
