As you know, I’ve been taking the Flor-Essence 25-day “wow I feel great!” return to good health program. I’m currently on day 21. Week one was focused mostly on eliminating toxins by increasing good soluble fiber and water intake to help ease the burden on the kidneys and the bowel (which is busy eliminating toxins). I ate a lot of oats, whole grain pastas, sprouted bread, quinoa, raw nuts and seeds, flaxseed oil, and fresh organic eggs. I start every morning with a tall glass of water with a squeeze of fresh lemon wedge. Since the liver is busy all night long detoxifying and cleaning the body, this helps to remove the left-over “sludge”. Then, I have my morning Flor-Essence tea. I experienced some mild headaches and fatigue during week one.
Week two was designed to help balance the pH in the body by choosing foods that are alkalizing. In doing this, you create an environment in the body that is unacceptable to many bacteria, viruses, toxins, and “dis-ease”. The pH of the body should sit right around 7.4 (slightly alkaline). The foods that are most alkaline are fruits and vegetables, whereas the most acid-forming foods are animal products, hydrogenated oils and some grains. I added a lot of green leafy vegetables and fresh juices to my meal-plan. Now I’m ending week three and I’m noticing that my pathways of elimination are becoming more predictable and my energy levels are going up again.
The third week is designed to focus on getting enough high quality vegetable-based protein, along with proper food combining. (I encourage you to pick up a good book or get online to research food combining.) By choosing vegetarian sources of protein, you are choosing foods with higher fiber, less saturated fat and more nutrient value.
Week four focuses on the quality of food. By quality, I mean learning to read labels and avoiding refined sugars and chemical preservatives. Examples of processed foods are refined grain products (such as baked goods), cured deli meats, processed cheeses, bleached sugars and cooking oils. A good rule of thumb would be to avoid anything that sounds like a chemical that is hard to pronounce. Ask any of my fellow employees about ingredients in Ellwood Thompson’s if you are not sure. To sum up my cleanse, I have really enjoyed it. It is a great, easy to follow program that included a yummy meal-plan which was easy to stick to. I feel a lot more energetic and clear. Also, I will continue to make much better choices about what I put into my body. Thanks! -Alissa
