Ideas to trim the edges

It seems that a dollar does not go as far as it used to….so in the theme of recycle, renew, reuse - I thought I would share some strategies that I use to help smooth out some of the sharp edges on my budget. Although I LOVE the smell of all the green cleaners - I save them for special occasions and mostly use just good old white vinegar to clean. I take my old socks and and cut off the feet and use them for dusting mitts. It is also a time that I can be thankful for my big feet. When it comes to clothing I try and go second hand. I am in a wedding this weekend and bought my dress at a consignment shop for $9.00. It is the perfect dress and the perfect price. To add a little mileage to clothes and linens I don’t give up on slightly stained stuff - I dye it a darker color. Last but not least is one of my favorite rituals - the yard sale!! Ah to get up at the crack of dawn with coffee, newspaper and directions in hand to go on the search for gems. For those times of gift giving and no time to shop I have 2 personal favorites on the web - Plant-Me-Pets and Jimi wallets - both gifts are under $20 and have a great story - you should check them out.http://www.branchhome.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=24&products_id=163http://www.thejimi.com/index.phpSo now it is your turn……..lets hear some of your great ideas!!!!!

I love these tips! I also use socks that have lost mates as dust mitts.
A cheap way to infuse your home with a fresh, yummy fragrance is to boil, then simmer, fruit peels - except for bananas (that would be yuck). Apple, orange, lemon and lime work really well. If you’re using fruit in a recipe, to add zest to tea, make lemonade or just to eat on its own, save the peel! Then you can add a couple of cloves, cinnamon sticks or a sprinkle of cinnamon to the mix - this works especially well with apples and oranges. If you have an herb garden, or herb clippings that have seen better days and are headed for the compost, try adding those to your lemon and/or lime and water mixure.
Baking soda is also a great natural cleaner.
Another great way to save money - hide your debt card! That’s what I’ve been doing lately. Real cash sticks around longer than cash that dwindles with the swipe o’ the card.
I’ll try to think of more money saving tips and will share.
