Yes, Ellwood’s is definitely shaking things up on the western edge of Carytown. The building formerly knows as the Blue Fox Cafe, and High’s Ice Cream will soon be home to Ellwood’s Coffee: a community place. Renovations are underway and the coffee/tea house, which will have wine/beer and its own menu items as well as some favorites from ET’s market, is slated to open in August. Also in the works is the expansion of Ellwood’s market into what is now, all though soon will not be, the Richmond Coin Laundry. By September customers will enjoy a hot bar three times the current size, an expanded bakery, a larger produce department and more cafe seating, among other changes. And, as for the rumored move to DC, ET is getting closer all the time. The store has its sights set on the Columbia Heights neighborhood and hopes to have a lease signed soon.
