One city guy’s creation of a organic garden….

Once upon a time……..Ok, Ok!  Well one day I realized that in my backyard right in front of the kitchen window we have a 3ft. by 20ft long space that has nothing in it but weed bushes and dirt (what’s a guy to do??). I decided to get some organic soil, organic non-gmo seeds(from Ellwood Thompsons) and removed those weed bushes.  All of sudden there a had it, an organic garden. I planted zucchini, bib lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and cauliflower with the hope that this Seattle city born boy can grow as easy as he can drink lattes:).  Now for the hard part….How do keep the bugs away without pesticides?? I’ll post pictures in the future!Ciao for now….

I’ve heard that in Virginia, if you plant it, it WILL grow. Last year I had my first vegetable garden here and everything grew like crazy…yes even the weeds but they were managable as long as you actually have time to pull them out once in a while. This year I’m doing it all over again and so far my biggest problem has been the neighborhood cats. (Way worse than bugs or weeds if you know what I mean.) I researched, well googled actually, a natural way to keep the cats away and learned that sprinkling fresh ground coffe in your garden keeps them out. Yippee it works! Just in case you were wondering…
Now I just have to worry about what I’m going to do with all the extra basil and tomatoes this summer.
