Ellwood Thompsons–To Plant a Community Garden!!

What do you get when you put together ET and the community?? Something special and thats exactly what we have Saturday when Ellwood Thompsons and Sneed’s Nursery come together and build a garden in the South Side community, Carter Jones Park! info below:

The Carter Jones Park Project: Celebrating the Earth Mother - Saturday, May 10, 10 AM - 4 PM (Get directions to the park) Sneed’s Nursery and ET’s plant a community garden and upgrade other areas of the park. Join us for a day in the park filled with festivities, food, and fun for all! Children’s activities, live performances (musicians, magician/juggler), demos, samples and more!

It was an awesome day. The local Boys & Girls Club will be visiting the garden to tend and water it a couple of times a week. Folks in the community have already add “cages” for the tomato plants to climb on and have been using the natural spring in the park to water (although the generous rain this season has done most of the watering).

Need to give a *big thanks* to Amy of Amy’s Organic Garden for teaching the kids a bit about organic gardening. They especially loved learning about “good bugs” and “bad bugs.”

Also, a huge *thank you* to Jannequin ET’s exec. chef for teaching the kids how delicious fresh veggies can be. She made some bruschetta for sampling and the kids loved it. A direct quote from a few of the kids “this is as good as pizza!”

And, an enormous thanks to Sneed’s Nursery and Landscaping. Ellwood’s could not have done it without their generous assistance. City of Richmond’s Parks/Recreation team was amazing - they contributed so much to this effort. The “thank you” acknowledgment plaque will be ready soon!
