Spoken Word Poetry and Community Dialogue

Experience thought provoking poetry and meaningful community dialogue featuring hot Richmond artists Hamilton Graziano and Robalū Gibsun.  Both are members of local award winning poetry group, Slam Nahuatl.  Hamilton Graziano is the coach of VCU’s regional champion slam team.

Participants will have an opportunity to share in a community dialogue facilitated by Denise Dolan about the issues raised by the poets. So come out and join us!  Grab good food for the body and stimulating food for thought.  You won’t want to miss this unique community event.

Stop by the Community Room at Elwood Thompson’s and see the exceptional textile products hand crafted by women in Mwitikira, Tanzania. You’ll see the latest shipment of LaLas (Drawstring leisure pants) Lishas (the much awaited Aprons), FoFoFos (straight legged pants with fly, and pockets) as well as Kilembes  (headbands) and Mambos ( bow ties)  All made of 100% cotton fabrics.

DaDas and Design,  a social enterprise started in Richmond, sells these products on behalf of the Tanzanian co op. They provide a means and a market, follow strict fair trade principles and return 100% of the profits to Mwitikira.

The products are as interesting as their names. You’ll see fabrics that capture the heat and light of east Africa, learn a little Swahili, and support women who are striving for a more secure future-the same as women everywhere.
