Support the James River!
Since the founding of America the James River has played a central and defining role in the development of Virginia. Pollution has been the greatest factor in the breakdown of this beautiful natural treasure. On Sunday, July 22, 2012 we donated 5% of our net profits to the James River Association whose mission is to keep the James River Healthy. Be sure to check out our display in the store of products that are biodegradable and perfect for keeping our James and Mother Earth in top shape! Tomato Season in Virginia
Well, it’s that time of the year again in Virginia. The weather easily reaches three-digit numbers and the tomatoes are bursting off the vines. Lucky for us, we’ve got local farmers bringing them in by the truckload. So if you’re not growing your own by now, we’ve got you covered. Look for Certified Organic tomatoes from Amy’s Garden including sungolds, Jubilee’s, and Heirlooms. We’ve also got naturally grown cherry and heirlooms from Norman’s Garden, just 4 miles away, and Clark Blackwell’s delicious varieties.
Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter page for tomato updates all through the season.
Lunchtime Film Series: Fresh
When
Monday, July 26th / 12:00PM
Location
Ellwood’s Community Classroom
Description
FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet.
Among several main characters, FRESH features urban farmer and activist, Will Allen, the recipient of MacArthur’s 2008 Genius Award; sustainable farmer and entrepreneur, Joel Salatin, made famous by Michael Pollan’s book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma; and supermarket owner, David Ball, challenging our Wal-Mart dominated economy.
