Child Nutrition Act in Action!
On Thursday, August 5th, the Senate unanimously passed the Child Nutrition Act, the federal legislation that stipulates the policy and funding for school meals. New policies include additional meal training and strengthened nutrition and fitness standards. To fund all of this, the bill allocates $4.5 billion, including an additional 6 cents per meal—the first non-inflationary revenue increase since 1973. And this is a wonderful thing! Just In: Victory Farms
Along with the Shenandoah Auction produce that came in this morning, Gina from Victory Farms just brought in local summer squash ($149/lb) and Chinese eggplant ($3.49/lb) so make sure you grab some while you can.
Different Colors of the Rainbow
Just arrived today are our Shenandoah Valley Produce Auction lima beans and Heirlooms!
The lima beans were JUST picked and shelled on Tuesday – which means they are as fresh as you can get! We tried them raw, and the flavor was out of this world.
And the Heirloom ‘maters are just begging to be apart of your salad or sandwich!
Richmond Magazine Staff Pick: Heather Johnson
Bethany Emerson of Richmond Magazine says, “When I’m sitting on a stool at Ellwood’s Cafe I just have to order my current favorite, a caramel latte. Heather Johnson always tops her drink with latte art – a heart of leaf drawn in foam.” And because of that, our adorable little Heather got written up as a Staff Pick in this month’s Best & Worst Issue of Richmond Mag. Jeremy’s Song Of The Day
Ahhhh, what a lovely song for such a dreary day. Like the song itself, this video will hypnotize you. Hope you do not have anything to do for the next five minutes or so because like the song title, you will want to keep watching to see how it ends (unless you have seen the video already). So, I present to you as my song of the day… “How It Ends” by DeVotchKa.
What We’re Eating
It’s been a little over a week since we last posted one of these, but Leigh’s salad yesterday was looking exceptionally scrumptious. Home style and home made all-natural chicken salad, fresh organic mixed greens, homemade croutons, organic carrots, organic beets and a side of organic cottage cheese.
If you’ve got an exceptionally scrumptious and healthy lunch in front of you, we’d love to see it! Send images over here!

Jeremy’s Song Of The Day
Who likes love songs? Anyone? Anyone? To that man all alone in the back of the bar drinking a martini built for two… I can see those bittersweet memories spinning behind those glassy eyes of yours, and it is to you, that I devote The Pogues “Misty Morning, Albert Bridge”. Oh, and by the way, try to look past Shane MacGowan’s teeth, or lack of (lead singer for those who do not know). Word on the street is, he’s got a brand new set of choppers to destroy with all that tobacco and whiskey. Shane, you are a legend!
It’s a Win for Wheat Bread!
Well, it might not be headline news, but in the food industry, it’s a win for the good guys.
